Here is a quick snapshot of how our two hunting areas compare and contrast:

|
| Elk | Typically heavy beamed Elk – with some non-typical. However, this area is a little more difficult to hunt (thicker). A lot of our Elk Hunters are "Elk connoisseurs" and come here specifically for the opportunity at large bulls | You will likely see more elk in this area, but they are more typical and have thinner horns (we do get some big ones there as well though). |
| Mule Deer and Whitetail | Good mule deer and whitetail | World class trophies for both species of deer - especially good during late season hunts |
| Shiras moose | 100% historical success | 100% historical success - slightly larger bulls |
| Rocky Mountain Goat | Excellent - 100% success | Excellent - 100% success |
| Grizzly Bear | Excellent - 80%+ success | Excellent - 80%+ success |
| Black Bear | 100% success on spring hunt (2-bear limit) | 100% success on spring hunt (2-bear limit) |
| Bighorn Sheep | Not offered | Offered - hunt for full-curl rams |
| Cougar, bobcat, lynx and wolf | Our hunters will cover both territories | Our hunters will cover both territories |
| Transportation used to access hunting area each day | Combination of horseback, hiking and ATV - depending on hunter preference and area hunted | Almost exclusively by horseback |
| Average distance of shots | 150-200 yards | 250-300 yards |
| Size of hunting territory | ~357 sq. miles (= 229,000 acres or 927 sq. KM) | ~183 sq. miles (= 118,000 acres or 476 sq. KM) |
* OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY GIVEN WEEK CAN VARY BASED ON WEATHER AND PHYSICAL ABILITY OF THE HUNTER
In 2005, we purchased Grizzly Basin Outfitters - in an area we are very familiar with. This is about 1 hours drive from our Sawtooth area. It is located in the Rocky Mountains. This gives us even more area to hunt, and we now have truly world class hunting for all species (for example, our area in the Purcell Mountains has good whitetail and mule deer, but our Rocky Mountain territory consistently gets world class trophies for both species of deer). Both areas are excellent for Elk, but they are slightly different – Our Sawtooth area in the Purcell Mountains has real monster, heavy beamed Elk, but is more difficult to hunt (thicker). You will see more Elk on the Grizzly Basin side, but they are more typical and have thinner horns (we do get some big ones there as well though). We also are able to outfit more hunters for excellent shiras moose, and rocky mountain goat (100% opportunity) + now can offer Bighorn sheep to the mix. With both territories, we can meet individual needs of our hunters without traveling great distances. Prior to purchasing Sawtooth Outfitters, we guided and hunted in the Grizzly Basin area for over 20 years, so we are very familiar with it. Having these two large hunting territories indicates that we are not a fly-by-night operation – our goal is to provide a truly world-class experience to our clients – We hope you will join us…
